Should he stay or should he go: Dustin Keller

Could Keller play elsewhere in 2013?

Tight end Dustin Keller has been a mainstay in New York for the past five seasons. With a major roster overhaul expected this offseason, the question remains, does Keller factor into the Jets' plans long-term plans?

Sometimes it's difficult for teams to say goodbye to a player who has made significant contributions and formed a strong following with its fan base. The New York Jets could face the prospect of their star tight end Dustin Keller playing for an opposing team. That is why the Green and White are contemplating placing the franchise tag on Keller.

Keller has already publicly expressed his desire to ink a long-term deal with the Jets. The tag will ensure that the front office locks up its prized offensive weapon for another season and gives new General Manager John Idzik more time to negotiate with Keller.

No. 81 has been quarterback Mark Sanchez's favorite target since he entered the NFL fivefive seasons ago. Keller was hobbled by hamstring issues in 2012; finishing the year with 28 receptions for 317 yards and two touchdowns. Despite a down season, Keller remains a nightmare for defenses to cover.

Linebackers are too slow to keep up with him and safeties are too small to bring him down in the open field. Keller had a breakout season in 2011; tallying 65 catches for 815 yards and five touchdowns.

The Jets should make Keller their top priority this offseason on the offensive side of the ball. The passing game was almost non-existent when Keller was not on the field last season. . When it's all said and done expect the former Purdue standout to be ready for another go-round with Gang Green.

Aside from Keller, the major questions for the franchise come on the defensive side of the ball. Impact players including: Mike Devito, LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell will be hard to keep considering the Jets hellish salary cap situation. Former general manager Mike Tannenbaum left the franchise in a compromising financial position.

With The resurrection of Gang Green already underway, Jets' fans should be buckle up for a wild ride this offseason.
