ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Saturday signed free-agent tackle Adam Meadows to a three-year contract, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Meadows (6-foot-5, 290 pounds) is in his eighth NFL season and most recently competed in Carolina’s training camp in 2004 before spending the last two regular seasons out of the NFL. A six-year starter, Meadows played all 103 career regular-season games (96 starts) from 1997-2003 with Indianapolis, which selected him in the second round (48th overall) of the 1997 NFL Draft.

While with the Colts from 1997-2003, Meadows was a regular starter on an offensive line that surrendered the fewest sacks (190) in the NFL during that period. He was a 16-game starter for the Colts during both the 1999 and 2000 seasons, years in which Edgerrin James led the NFL in rushing yards with respective totals of 1,553 and 1,709 yards.

Meadows, 32, started 61 games with the Colts from 1999-2002, blocking for Peyton Manning as the quarterback became the first player in NFL history to pass for more than 4,000 yards in four consecutive seasons. He was a 16-game starter as a rookie for the Colts in 1997 and contributed to the club ranking seventh in the NFL with 109 rushing first downs.

A four-year starter at the University of Georgia, Meadows was part of a Bulldogs offense that set a school single-season record by posting 5,135 total yards of offense during his sophomore year. He lettered in football and basketball at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga.

Jonathan Adam Meadows was born Jan. 25, 1974.
