Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan discusses the team's progress through the first preseason game, as well as the preparation for Saturday night's game against the Tennessee Titans.

Mike Shanahan

On the status of WR Brandon Marshall
“I think he has a slight tear in his PCL (knee). He should be back in a couple weeks. You don’t worry about things that you have no control over. He is going to have to work his hardest to get back into shape. He has had 30 practices, so he has a good feel for the system. Hopefully, he can get back pretty quickly and get ready for that last preseason game.”

On RB Ron Dayne
“Ron is doing OK. He has a sore toe, but he will be able to go tomorrow, Greek (Broncos Head Athletic Trainer Steve Antonopulos) thinks. It is a temporary setback, but he should be OK.”

On LB Patrick Chukwurah
“He has a sprained ankle. I don’t think it is too bad, but he is sore right now.”

On FB Cecil Sapp
“He has a lower right groin/hamstring injury. He is nursing that, and that is why he was out for a little bit.”

On TE Tony Scheffler’s performance Friday in Detroit
“He played pretty good. It was very good for his first game in the National Football League. He caught the ball well, and he blocked pretty good.”

On QB Jay Cutler’s performance Friday in Detroit
“He played well and had a good game. I think the offensive line did a good job of protecting him. He was very poised. There were very base defenses and very base offenses on both sides of the ball. For his first game in the National Football League, I was very pleased. A lot of defenses just play vanilla defense, but he played very well. Regardless of whatever type of defense it is, you just have to go out there and do it. It was a pretty good first game.”

On why practice was moved ahead two hours on Sunday
“This time of year, I just don’t want the players standing around all day. They had good meetings that were over a little bit earlier than we had anticipated. We just gave them a little bit more time off.”
