The Dre Bly saga came to a close at Dove Valley this afternoon, with Bly and the team agreeing to terms on a five-year, $33 million contract, which includes a $16 million signing bonus.
The signing puts an end to the specualation that Bly was unhappy with the March 2nd trade, which sent running back Tatum Bell
, tackle George Foster
and a fifth-round draft pick to Detroit in exchange for the eight-year veteran.
Bly (5-foot-10, 188 pounds) is entering his ninth NFL season and joins the Broncos after spending the previous four years with the Lions, who signed him as an unrestricted free agent on March 1, 2003. Bly played his first four professional seasons with St. Louis after the Rams selected him in the second round (41st overall) of the 1999 NFL Draft from the University of North Carolina
Over the course of his career Bly has totaled 33 interceptions, five of which he returned for touchdowns. The two-time Pro Bowler has also been featured on special teams play with eight kick returns for touchdowns.
His addition to the Broncos defensive backfield gives Denver two of the best defensive backs in the league, playing along side cornerback Champ Bailey
