The Denver Broncos have signed free-agent defensive tackle Sam Adams, a three time Pro Bowl selection.

Adams (6-foot-3, 350 pounds) is in his 14th NFL season and joins the Broncos from Cincinnati, where he spent the 2006 campaign. He also has played for Buffalo (2003-05), Oakland (2002), Baltimore (2000-01) and Seattle (1994-99). He entered the league with the Seahawks as the eighth overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft from Texas A&M University.

Adams' 44 career sacks (297 yds.) rank as the fourth-highest total among all active NFL defensive tackles. He was a starter on defenses that ranked among the NFL's top 10 against the run for five consecutive seasons from 2000-04 as a member of the Ravens, Raiders and Bills.

He has played 195 career regular-season games (166 starts) and recorded 463 tackles (326 solo), three interceptions (62 yds.), 37 pass breakups, 10 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. In the postseason, Adams has started all 10 career games played and posted 26 tackles (17 solo), two sacks (9 yds.), four pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The veteran started for the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII (2002 season) and helped the Ravens to a victory in Super Bowl XXXV (2000 season).

Adams was a 16-game starter for the Bengals in 2006, totaling 25 tackles (12 solo), two sacks (8 yds.) and one pass breakup. He joined Cincinnati as a free agent after three seasons in Buffalo (2003-05), where he helped the Bills rank seventh in the NFL against the run (100.3 ypg.) as a Pro Bowl selection in 2004.

Adams played in the second Super Bowl of his career during his only year with Oakland in 2002, starting 14 games that season on a team that ranked third in the NFL against the run (90.8 ypg.).

During two seasons with Baltimore from 2000-01, Adams helped the Ravens lead the NFL in run defense (74.4 ypg.) and earned Pro Bowl accolades each season. He registered a career-best 69 tackles (36 solo) for Baltimore in 2000 on a club that allowed the fewest rushing yards (60.1 ypg.) in a season since the 1970 NFL merger en route to winning Super Bowl XXXV.

Adams spent his first six professional seasons (1994-99) with the Seahawks and registered a career-best seven sacks for Seattle in 1997.

A three-year starter and consensus All-American as a junior at Texas A&M, Adams attended Cyprus Creek High School in Houston and was born June 13, 1973.
