----------------------------------------------- * - Eddie Royal was the fifth wide receiver taken in the 2008 NFL Draft. * - Royal becomes the fifth player drafted by the Broncos in club history from Virginia Tech and is the highest player ever selected by Denver from that school. He is the first Hokie selected by the Broncos in the draft since 1995 when they took LB Ken Brown in the fourth round (124th overall) that year. * - Royal is the sixth-highest wide receiver drafted by the Broncos in the common draft era (since 1967). He is the highest wide receiver taken by Denver in a draft since 2002 when it selected Hawaii WR Ashley Lelie with the 19th overall pick (highest WR ever taken by the Broncos). * - Royal's selection makes him the 19th wide receiver drafted by the Broncos under Head Coach Mike Shanahan (1995-Pres.). Denver, which has chosen more wide receivers than any other position since 1995, last took a wide receiver in 2006 when they took Central Florida WR Brandon Marshall (Rd. 4-119) and Akron WR Domenik Hixon (Rd. 4-130). * - By taking Royal, the Broncos have selected a wide receiver in nine of the last 11 drafts dating back to 1998. * - Royal is the seventh wide receiver from Virginia Tech selected in the common draft era (since 1967). He also is the second-highest wide receiver picked from Virginia Tech during that time. Only Bryan Still, who was taken in the second round (41st overall) by San Diego in the 1996 NFL Draft, was chosen higher in the common draft era than Royal. * - Royal's selection extends Virginia Tech's streak of having at least one player drafted to 15 consecutive years dating back to 1994. He was the third Hokie taken in the 2008 NFL Draft.
* - Other players drafted at No. 42 overall in NFL history include UCLA C Randy Cross (1976, S.F.) and Abilene Christian S Danieal Manning (2006, Chi.).
