OVERVIEW

Domonique Foxworth is an athletic defensive back who started for the third straight season in 2004 at the field cornerback position and was Maryland's most experienced defensive player. The two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection had possibly the strongest work ethic on the team. He received "Iron Terp" honors in 2004 when he posted the team's third-best strength index, with a 37-inch vertical jump, a 335-pound bench, 515-pound squat and 4.5 time in the 40-yard dash in spring testing.

Foxworth attended Western Tech High in Baltimore and accumulated enough credits to graduate early and enroll at Maryland in the spring of 2000. A three-year starter at defensive back and tailback, he also handled kick returns. Foxworth racked up 4,871 career all-purpose yards and a school-record 43 touchdowns. He ran for 1,369 yards (school record) and 22 scores, caught three touchdown passes, passed for four more and ran two kicks back for scores, accounting for 2,037 all-purpose yards as a senior. As a cornerback, he recorded a school-record 14 interceptions.

Foxworth was scheduled to redshirt in 2001, but was pressed into action late in the season, starting two games and recording eight solo tackles with a stop for a loss. He was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference choice in his first full season as a starter in 2002. Foxworth collected 54 tackles (46 solo) and also intercepted five passes while deflecting 17 others from his defensive wing position.

He was a second-team All-ACC pick as a junior, collecting 44 tackles (38 solo) with six pass break-ups, three interceptions and a fumble recovery. Foxworth extended his consecutive start string to 40 in 2004, as he was in on 36 tackles (31 solo), a fumble recovery and eight pass deflections.

He closed out his Terrapin career with 142 tackles (121 solo), two stops for losses of 6 yards and four fumble recoveries. Foxworth also deflected 31 passes and intercepted eight others for 128 yards in returns and a touchdown.

POSITIVES

Hard worker with a good ethic. ... Runs with a normal stride and can accelerate quickly. ... Has no problems taking the play from the board to the field. ... Shows a decent burst to get to the ball once he is able to locate it. ... Can cover ground with his catch-up speed. ... Lacks top-end speed, but has enough quickness and instincts to stay tight with a receiver in man coverage. ... Shows good awareness for plays in front of him and gets adequate depth in his pass drops. ... Does a decent job in using his hands to get off blocks. ... His strength allows him to play bigger than his size indicates. ... Shows good explosion and burst in pursuit. ... When he plays in a press bail alignment, he shows a solid crossover run. ... Has the change of direction agility and sudden burst to get on the receiver, using his hands effectively to press and reroute. ... Decent wrap-up tackler, but is more effective when he drags the ball carrier down. ... Best suited to cover the slot receiver, because of his short area quickness and extra gear he shows in his forward charge. ... Quick to flip his hips and get a good break on intermediate routes.

2004 SEASON

Started every game at the defensive "wing" position, extending his starting streak to forty games. ... Finished with 36 tackles (31 solo), a stop for a 3-yard loss and a fumble recovery. ... Also deflected eight passes.
