Mike Leach is in his fifth NFL season and third with the Broncos out of William & Mary. His primary role the last two seasons has been as the team’s long snapper, but he also provided experience at the tight end position. He was with Chicago in training camp (signed Jan. 10, 2002) but was waived Aug. 26, 2002. Leach entered the league in 2000 as an undrafted free agent with Tennessee and played in 19 games before being waived by the Titans Oct. 16, 2001.
2004: Leach handled the Broncos’ long-snapping duties for all 16 games. At K.C. (12/19), he downed a 42-yard Jason Baker punt at the Chiefs’ 1-yard line in the third quarter. He was the first Bronco downfield on a fourth-quarter punt vs. Oak. (11/28) and pulled down Raiders returner Phillip Buchanon for a loss of six yards on the play. He made a tackle on special teams at N.O. (11/21). On Denver’s opening punt of the game at Cin. (10/25) on Monday Night Football, he was the first Bronco downfield and slowed up Bengals return man Deltha O’Neal for a 1-yard return. At Oak. (10/17), Leach downed a Micah Knorr punt at the Raiders’ 26-yard line in the fourth quarter. He made a tackle on special teams at T.B. (10/3).
2003: Leach handled the long-snapping duties in all 16 games and made three special teams tackles (vs. Oak., 9/22, vs. Det, 9/28 and at G.B., 12/28).
2002: Leach played in all eight games after signing with the Broncos Nov. 4 to handle the club's long-snapping duties. He played in his first game as a Bronco vs. Oak. (11/11). Leach was with Chicago in training camp (signed Jan. 10, 2002) but was waived Aug. 26, 2002. He was with Tennessee for the first four games of the 2001 season, and was the club's long snapper before being waived Oct. 16.
2001: Leach spent the first four games with Tennessee before being waived (10/16).
2000: Leach played in 15 games for the Titans after being signed to the active roster on Sept. 8. He originally was assigned to the team's practice squad following training camp. Though he did not record a reception, Leach did see action at tight end. He primarily played on special teams and did not record a tackle. Leach was credited with one kickoff return for 10 yards against Cleveland (11/19). In addition, he played on special teams in the Titans' 24-10 AFC Divisional Playoff loss to Baltimore (1/7).
COLLEGE: Leach was a two-year starter at tight end and punter at William & Mary after transferring from Boston University when the school dropped its football program. He was a first-team Walter Camp All-America choice at tight end as a senior in 1999, and led the Atlantic 10 Conference in punting both his junior and senior seasons. In his college career, Leach registered 106 receptions for 1,181 yards and 12 touchdowns. As a senior, he led his conference in receptions (33) among tight ends, gaining 305 yards and scoring four touchdowns. As a junior, he earned second-team All-American (AP) and second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors. He also set school records in both catches by a tight end (58) and season punting average (44.4). A history major, Leach played in 16 games with no starts in two years at Boston University and redshirted in 1995.
